NEW ORLEANS

After the tongue-up-cheeks post below I thought I'd get serious for a second and tell you that I'm hoping and (yes) praying that both of these Orleananders, Barry Goubler and Russell Desmond (of CAN'T BUY A THRILL "fame", although I've been trying to boost his stature amongst you heathens for years to little if any avail), not to mention any other person in harm's way who's good people, survived the recent hurricane that devastated the gulf area and with flying colors to boot. I know that Desmond is not connected to the internet, but Barry, if you're reading this and can get in touch, please write and tell me you're still in one piece, OK?

Anyway, here's hoping that not only these two proud Sons o' the South are safe and sound after this catastrophe of 19th century proportions, but also that both Dave Lang and Jay Hinman were on their respective holidays right in the heart of Katrina as she set ashore! But we can't wish for everything, can we?

Judging from Goubler's Myspace.com post of two days ago he's now in Chicago which I wasn't aware of, though no word on Desmond yet...

Chris, thanks for the concern...I sent you a myspace message, but I just saw this...Russell's bookstore was in the Quarter, last I looked; hope he's ok; my mom and grandmother got out, but the house damage is probably too bad to repair; I haven't heard from the rest of my family...the phone lines are down...seems like my friends have made it, though.
Its total anarchy down there, and I don't see the city recovering from this...really sad, but I'm thankful for what there is too be greatful for.
thanks again-Barry

You do know that Alex Chilton is still missing. He was last heard from two days ago and was OK then, but has not been heard from since. Apparently he lives in the Treme/9th Ward area which has been devastated by the flooding and his house is boarded up. What's going on down there is REALLY screwed up, in a way that I find difficult to put into words. - Michael Snider
